For six seasons, fans have been following the adventures of Emma Swan and her parents, Snow White and Prince Charming as they tried to face an assortment of villains while staying true to themselves. Now, it seems Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz must find a way to keep the audience engaged without a handful of lead stars.
Jennifer Morrison Was the First to Go
As the fate of Once Upon a Time was resting in the hands of the production studio, Morrison (who plays lead heroine, Emma Swan) had her own decision to make. After six years of playing The Savior, the former House star decided not to renew her contract, leaving Storybrooke for good. However, there is still some good news for the series’ fans. Morrison agreed that, in the event the series is renewed – at it was – she will return for one more episode.
Who Else is Leaving Once Upon a Time?
Emma Swan is leaving magic behind, and she’s taking her parents, her son, her friend, and her enemy with her as Ginnifer Goodwin (Snow White), Josh Dallas (Charming), Jared Gilmore (Henry), Emilie de Ravin (Belle), and Rebecca Mader (Zelena, the Wicked Witch of the West) are also saying their goodbyes.
Both Kitsis and Horowitz have expressed their sadness upon hearing news of the departures, taking time to praise each actor for their contribution to the TV show. It’s a heartfelt goodbye that will most likely be featured in the first episode of the newly renewed season 7.
Now fans are left wondering if Colin O’Donoghue (Captain Killian “Hook” Jones) has what it takes to carry on the show without lead star Morrison. It’s also going to be interesting to see how the two producers are going to write Emma Swan out, leaving the newly-wed husband to defend Storybrooke and its other inhabitants. On the plus side, maybe this is Lana Parrilla’s time to shine bright and take the scene.
