Slack is an incrementally successful software that comes to the aid of corporations in the form of a communication tool. The company managed to create a comprehensive product. It was the first service that addressed certain modern needs of employees. To get a better position in one of its most important markets, the company decided to get a London office despite general concerns regarding Brexit major event.
Brexit Might Impair Businesses Due to Poorer Relations with Europe
On Wednesday, Stewart Butterfield, the Chief Executive Officer at Slack, admitted that his company holds U.K. in great esteem. It is an important market for Slack, and it cannot rely solely on North America.
“Here in the U.K., it’s our second biggest market.”
From a business point of view, it comes naturally to consider a physical expansion in one’s second fruitful markets. On the other hand, the political theater might turn U.K. into a shaky ground for business development. Some concerning outcomes might be poorer trading relationships between U.K. and Europe and difficulties in leveraging foreign talent.
Future Slack London Office Will Focus on Sales Only
The company plans to turn its London office into a sales department only. For the moment, there are five employees that activate within a co-working center. However, their number might reach 20 by the end of the year. Slack started off its business with approximately the same staff size back in 2014. However, its project expanded to millions of customers. As such, the Slack employee community is now at 800 members across seven offices. The latest inauguration was in Dublin 18 months ago. There are now 70 professionals that conduct their daily tasks at the Irish headquarters.
Moreover, there are many other tech giants who did not lose faith in U.K. For instance, Facebook announced that it is going to increase its London staff by 50%. Furthermore, Snap Inc. endorsed London as its main tech hub and opened an office in Soho. Finally, Google is already hosting a large community in the city, and it also considers 3,000 extra employees here.
