The latest Apple move will shock you: you can now get a half priced iPhone 5S in India. India is the latest country that Apple has chosen to focus its attention on, previously focusing on China’s market. Having the third largest market judging by the smartphone sales, India is outnumbered only by China and the United States.
In order to outdo Samsung and Indian labels like Intex or Micromax, Apple reduced the price of the iPhone 5S to almost a half of its original price. The shocking sale has revealed that the price of the phone is no longer 44,500 rupees, but 25,000 rupees, making India one of the countries with the lowest prices for an iPhone.
But the situation wasn’t always as bright as it is now. Previous to the sale, India was one of the countries with the highest prices for an iPhone. Thus local companies were extremely successful and even the foreign ones, like Samsung. Samsung, the South Korean company is in fact the leader of the phone market in India. Samsung doesn’t import the phones, they are actually manufactured in India, thus making them extremely affordable.
One of the reasons the iPhones are so expensive in India is because of the high import taxes. It is known that India applies elevated taxes on products that are not manufactured within the country.
Researchers have discovered that India’s market is a much different market than China’s market. Due to the new discoveries the Apple representatives have decided to take a different approach. In order to succeed on the Indian market, Apple has decided to focus its attention on older iPhones, which the people can afford.
In 2015 Apple has not been included in the top 5 smartphone companies in India but things are clearly going to change. Researchers predict that the Indian market will surpass even the U.S. market before 2017.
