Destiny 2 has still several months for polishing its last details before meeting its fans. The production has already managed to build up excitement and big expectations. However, some announcements are already making this game feel alive. Last week, Bungie stated that they would launch Destiny 2 with no dedicated servers. Due to a lack of explanations, the topic became controversial for enthusiasts. Therefore, the lead engineer, Matt Segur, stepped in to temper the situation before it has a chance to explode.
Lack of Dedicated Servers Are Due to New Technology
As a consequence of this PR strategy, the public was relieved. Matt Segur explained that Destiny 2 would work smoother than any time before despite the fact that it will come with no dedicated servers. This is possible thanks to a new technology that lead the way toward a better model for networking. The innovation is still up for testing. However, it is expected to bring refreshing improvements for players.
The new technology will move hosting burden from console players’ shoulders to the ones of the company. Therefore, Raid attempts or Trial matches from Destiny 2 are going to suffer little turbulences during migrations from now on. With Destiny 1, the data center was in charge only with mission logic and scripts. However, this time the date centers will respond for both Physics Host and Mission Host.
Destiny 2 Paid More Attention to Game Infrastructure
To make this a reality, engineers used a hybrid technology between client-server and peer-to-peer systems. This means great news for players around the world. Thanks to these improvements, their gameplay will no longer have to suffer whenever they have a bad connection or whenever they play with users with a bad connection.
Matt Segur confessed that the team behind the game paid closer attention this time to back end development such as infrastructure and cloud servers. Another issue they took care of was cheating possibilities. The engineer did not disclose any strategies. However, he claimed that anyone who would try to tempt his or her fate in Destiny 2 with cheats is going to have a hard time.
