A123 Systems who have carved a niche for itself in advanced battery technologies such as li-ion at bigger scales needed for vehicles and power grids is suing Apple for pouching its engineers .The case pertains to five former employees of A123 systems and has been currently employed by Apple as per a court filing on Tuesday.
All the five employees while they were under the payroll of A123 were responsible for developing and testing a new battery technology and were bound by a non-disclosure agreement regarding the company’s proprietary information.
The Company further claims that Apple is indulging in large scale pouching of its staff. Apple is developing a large scale battery division and will be competing in the same space as A123.
It alleges that Apple since June 2014 embarked on a massive campaign to hijack employees of A123 and to grab a part of A123 business in a dubious way.
Apple has not responded to these allegations by A123. The latest filing comes amid rumors that Apple is pulling out all the plugs to move into the electric car space.
As per a report of Wall Street Journal, Apple has several hundred employees working on a secret project which has been code named “Titan” and it includes the primary design work on a vehicle that resembles a minivan.
There are rumors that Apple wants to take on Elon Musk’s electric car company Tesla. It revealed last week that it is in the process of unveiling a home storage battery which will compete with the electricity companies as a power source.
A123 Systems was on the brink of bankruptcy and had even filed for one before it was brought by the Chinese company WanXiang for a sum of $251 million. Before filing for bankruptcy the company was projected as a harbinger of clean technology.
Earlier rumors surfaced that Apple will be launching an electric Car and already people are talking about it.
