In order to commemorate the heroes of the World War II and to celebrate the veterans who are still in life, a great show has been offered on Friday to the Americans who gathered to honor the memories of the ones who fought for freedom in what has become one of the most tragic events in the entire history of the world. The National Mall in Washington, D.C. was the location of the event. People from all across the United States have gathered in thousands in the capital city to watch the anniversary of the VE Day, which happened 70 years ago. As Americans remember WWII victory, our best thoughts go to the heroes who fought for their country in the most severe military clash of the last century.
One of the most impressive parts of the 70th anniversary of the VE Day has been the air show offered by 50 pilots who flew 50 vintage World War II airplanes.
In addition to the fantastic air show that was offered to the thousands of Americans and not only who have attended the 70th anniversary of the VE Day, another impressing fact about the event has been the presence of the World War II veterans. The veterans and their families took part in a wreath laying ceremony, to honor the memories of those who fell on the field of battle during the World War II.
One of the most impressive parts of the air show has been the one called „the missing man”. While a formation of planes flew over the sky, one of them broke away. This action symbolizes the soldiers who have fallen in the events which took place 70 years ago.
Not only the veterans and their families alongside with other people that attended the event from the ground watched the show. Numerous people have gathered on rooftops surrounding the area to catch a part of the air show. Such an air show is a rare way to celebrate nowadays, and it has become even more difficult to meet taking into account the fact that the air space above the United States capital has been limited by restrictions following the tragic events which occurred on 9/11.
President Barack Obama transmitted a message in connection to the 70th anniversary of the VE Day. The President reiterated the importance of remembering the sacrifice of the 400,000 American soldiers that never came back home after World War II. Obama also urged the generations of today to dedicate their lives to the liberties in the name of which the American soldiers gave their life on the battlefield.
