After touching Elf on the Shelf girl calls 911 in tears to report that the magic of Christmas might disappear. The girl is a 7-year-old living in Old Bridge, New Jersey.
Isabelle LaPeruta told the operator that it was an accident and she didn’t mean to call the police but her dad so they shouldn’t send a patrol. However, the police have to investigate all the calls they receive so an officer went to the girls’ house.
When Lt. Joseph Mandola got to her house, the little girl was in tears and she apologized, saying she wanted to call her dad. Her mother, Lyanne was sleeping when she heard her daughter talking to someone at the door. When she went to see who it was, she found her daughter trying to shoo a police officer away from their house.
According to NBC New York, Isabella was panicking and crying when her mom woke up to find her talking to the officer. She was scared because she has touched the Elf on the Shelf which might destroy the spirit of Christmas but also because she knew it wasn’t something to call the police for.
The little girl explained that the Elf fell when she threw a ball in the house and being afraid that she will get in trouble for that she picked up the Elf and put it back to its place. Then she started panicking that the spirit of Christmas might be destroyed.
Luckily, Lt. Mandola understood that for a kid destroying Christmas might be a real emergency so she did what she though right to do – call for help.
Elf on the Shelf is a storybook published in the 2000s in the US which says that Santa sends elves to children’s’ houses to watch over them before Christmas. Each book comes with an elf which must be placed on a shelf from where it can watch over the children.
According to the book the most important rule which must be followed by every child is to not touch the elf or it might lose its magic and wouldn’t be able to report to Santa anymore.
The elf’s job is to report to Santa every night after the children are asleep. Being back from the North Pole, the elf returns each morning in a different location of the house.
