A recent event which took place in Walnut Creek, California, comes to show us that even a masterfully forged plan can go wrong if one fails to account for the human factor. According to the Walnut Creek Police Department, under the guise of construction workers, three individuals tried to rob a watch store on Thursday. However, they were put to rout by the store’s owner, who was hiding a 40-mm semi-automatic handgun under the counter.
Watch Store Owner Defends His Property
The Walnut Creek Police Department revealed that, on Thursday, the local watch store was targeted by three armed individuals, who attempted to rob it. Police records reveal that the two of men entered the store disguised as construction workers, while the third one was keeping watch outside.
Also, it appears that the whole performance was recorded by one of the watch store’s security cameras, which was made available shortly after the incident. Kyle O’Connor, the store owner, told the Walnut Creek detectives that two individuals entered his shop on Thursday, wearing yellow vests. There was also another customer inside the watch store.
Robbers Sprayed O’Conner and Customer with Mace
One of them approached the counter and handed O’Connor a wooden clipboard, asking him to sign some papers. While the store’s owner was preoccupied with the documents, the individual sprayed some sort of chemical on O’Connor and the other customer, stunning them long enough for the other robber to smash one of the glass display cases with a baseball bat.
However, instead of seeking refuge behind the counter and allowing the robbers to make away with the loot, the watch store’s owner placed his hand on the counter and took out a 40-mm semi-automatic handgun. As soon as he pulled the gun’s cock, the robbers got scared and fled the watch store, leaving the stolen merchandise behind.
According to O’Connor testimony, as soon as they left the shop, the two individuals and a third person, who was probably keeping watch outside the shop, jumped into a Dodge Challenger and took off. The owner described the car as being a recent model, with silver rims, paper plates, and black bodywork.
At the moment, the Walnut Creek authorities are trying to establish the identity of the individuals who tried to rob the watch store on Thursday. As for Kyle O’Connor, the owner, he was applauded by the authorities, who declared that the individual managed to protect his property without wounding someone or firing a single shot.
