You might want to think twice before sending your kid alone to the supermarket to buy groceries. Recently, a security camera from a North Carolina Walmart recorded how an individual tried to snatch a little girl from her mother’s arms. Fortunately, the child was not harmed during the incident, and the individual has been arrested and charged with assault on a child under 12. The same Walmart customer has been seen entering the supermarket accompanied by another child.
A trip to a Walmart store was on the verge of turning into a tragedy for a young mother and her daughter. It was just like any other day at Walmart – lots of customers, minutes wasted looking for the right merchandise, and, of course, shady characters passing by and ogling at you and your child.
The young mother, who refused to disclose her identity, said that during her visit to the store, she turned her head around and saw her daughter talking to a stranger. Of course, abducting a child in broad daylight would be madness but just to be sure, the mother took the girl in her arms in her attempt to end the dialogue between her and the stranger.
As she took her 10-month-old daughter in her arms, the individual, later identified as being 49-year-old Eric Richardson, continue to stare at the infant. The woman said that there was nothing menacing about him – he was clean, neat, and talked nicely with her daughter.
However, after a couple of seconds, the Walmart customer got tired of talking to the girl and tried to snatch her from her mother’s arms. The woman said that Richardson gripped her so tight, that she thought her arm was caught in a jaw vise.
While gripping the woman’s arms, the individual kept telling the girl that he would much like her to come home with him. All this time, the woman tried to break loose and to tell the man that her daughter doesn’t talk to strangers.
After a while, the mother managed to escape and to call the police. However, the man vanished without a trace. Upon reviewing the supermarket’s security tapes, the investigators discovered that the man entered the store accompanied by a child.
The authorities put out a warrant for Richardson’s arrest, but the man turned himself in on Wednesday. A judge set Richardson’s bail at $15,000. The man has been charged with assault on a child under 12-years-old.
