Two sisters from Massachusetts have been taken into custody for allegedly disfiguring a 5-year-old girl during a voodoo ritual. The suspects have also been accused of trying to behead the girl’s 8-year-old brother with a machete, as part of the same ritual.
Voodoo Ritual Leaves Girl with Permanent Burn Marks on Face
Rachel Hilaire, 40, and Peggy LaBossiere have been taken into custody after the authorities determined that the two disfigured a 5-year-old girl and threatened to murder another child during a cleansing ritual.
According to the court documents, LaBossiere and Hilaire were contacted by children’s mother in order to perform a voodoo ritual mean to drive away an evil spirit that inhabited the body of her 5-year-old daughter, making him behave in a rambunctious manner.
The women agreed to help the mother and conducted the ritual cleansing at their East Bridgewater house. As part of the ritual meant to ward off a demon, the 5-year-old was strapped to a chair, while one of the participants blew fire her face. One of the two suspects also used a sharp implement to draw blood from the girl’s arms and collarbone.
When confronted by the authorities, the Massachusetts voodoo sisters declared that they did not mean to harm the girl and that the burn marks on the victim’s face are a side-effect of the demon leaving her body.
Reportedly, during the ritual, one of the two sisters threatened to behead the girl’s 8-year-old brother with a machete. The sisters were arrested on the 29th of January and charged with mayhem, assault and several other charges.
The 8-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital, where she received medical attention for third-degree facial burns. Unfortunately, the damage done during the ritual is irreversible. Both women have been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation pending their appearance in court.
