If you think it’s bad luck to break a mirror, then what would you call being hit and killed by an ambulance after being hit by another vehicle? Southfield authorities are currently investigating a freak accident which took place on Monday.
An ambulance was on its way to drop off a patient at the Beaumont Hospital when an individual appeared in front of it. As the authorities discovered, the patient was in a stable condition, and the ambulance, so there was no need for the driver to turn on the lights and the siren.
At approximately 5 pm, a man literally dashed in front of the incoming ambulance. The driver hit the brakes and swerve, but he could not avoid the impact. Several minutes later, the pedestrian was declared dead at the scene.
The police’s investigation revealed that the man was 41-year-old and he was living in Commerce Township. However, for a couple of days, the man booked a room at the nearby motel. An eyewitness declared that the same man was involved in another car accident, on the hour before being run over by the ambulance.
After being hit by a vehicle, another pedestrian helped the man get up and transported him to the motel where he was staying. Oddly enough, instead of heading to the nearby hospital, the man got out of the bed and decided to take a little stroll. After a couple of minutes, the man jumped in front of the ambulance.
Investigators said that the prior incident was not reported and that the victim was seen lying on a small patch of grass before jumping in front of the second vehicle. Furthermore, it appears that the ambulance struck the man outside a designated crosswalk. At this point, we don’t know for certain if the police are going to press any charges against the ambulance driver.
