Apple’s cooked up a new way for you to take advantage of the MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar. It may seem like a trifle, but it’s actually quite entertaining and great for passing the time. The newest addition to the popular MacBook Pro is an application called Touch Bar Piano, very similar to Android’s Touch Pianist.
The application, which was designed exclusively for the MacBook Pro, transforms your Touch Bar into a fully functional musical instrument. Although most video demos of the app show someone playing a virtual grand piano, the application is capable of emulation 128 distinct musical instruments such as guitar, accordion, harmonica, violin, piano, and even a theremin.
So, how does this application work? Well, as we’ve said before, you will need to have a MacBook Pro with Touch Bar notebook for the application to run. If you do, then head over to Apple’s iStore and download the application.
Fire up the application, choose your musical instrument of choice and start playing. After selecting a musical instrument, the Touch Bar will transform as to display frets, keys, or strings. We only manage to test out the acoustic piano and the electric guitar features, but the first impression was good.
The keys were very responsive to touch, and with a single swipe, we could access a wider range of musical notes. There’s only one problem – the actual size of the virtual keys. Keep in mind that the application was created to accommodate the Touch Bar, which is not that big.
So, if you have chunky fingers like us, you’ll have problems playing individual notes. But, on the bright side, there’s another app out there that boosts the Touch Bar’s efficiency.
And yes, the Touch Piano Application features an Escape key in the corner. Now, if you want to test out this new application, but can’t afford to buy a MacBook Pro, you can try out Touché.
Touché is a Touch Bar emulator developed by a company called Red Sweater. This application is designed to emulate the function of the Touch Bar for MacBooks running MacOS 10.12.1 or later.
Once installed, the emulator will display the Touch Bar on your screen. To use the Touch Bar Piano, simply download the application from the store and use the on-screen controls.
