The latest puzzle game, “The Witness” is the indie game you want to play. “The Witness” is inspired by Jonathan Blow’s legendary “Myst” and it is a 3-dimensional puzzle game.
“The Witness” features approximately 650 puzzles, and according to Blow, one of the puzzles is can be solved by only 1 percent of the players. The following tips will prove to be of use if you decide you are capable of solving the complex array of puzzles that “The Witness” is offering to its players.
The first thing you should do is not immerse yourself in the first puzzle you find. You should take your time and explore the island a bit. This will come in handy when you will need to solve a more complex puzzle that requires multiple smaller tasks.
In addition to the familiarization of the island, you will find some smaller, easier side puzzles that help you prepare for the more complex ones. The small puzzles will also help you learn each symbol and the rules behind it.
The second thing that you have to take into consideration is that “The Witness” is not a game that rewards every achievement with a power-up or some extra inventory items. The players are not rewarded for completing a task.
The only reward you will get after managing to solve a difficult puzzle is the opportunity to solve another one. The important thing that the player must bear in mind is that when they manage to solve a certain puzzle they discovered the key to solving others that have the same rules.
The third thing you should know is that linearity is not that valued by the creators of “The Witness”. Sometimes looking backwards at the situation will bring clarity to the problem. It’s like when you were kids and you had that “find the right path that leads to the end of the maze” figure. The clever children always started from the finish and drew the line towards the good entrance.
It is also best if you keep a notepad a pencil beside you when you start playing “The Witness” because some of the featured puzzles are just too difficult to solve by only using your brain or your memory.
Don’t be afraid to use your print “screen button” and a fresh new “paint” document. Some of the puzzles can only be solved by drawing lines, and if they are incorrect they will fade away. Some evidence of the failed attempts will help you find the solution much easier.
Also, the print screens or the photos will help the player later in the game, since some of the puzzles are interconnected, but are placed at a significant distance from each other.
“The Witness” is the indie game you want to play and these tips will help you solve a significant part of the 650 featured puzzles in the game.
