A Florida woman facetiously claiming to be a licensed doctor has been found guilty of killing one person and injuring three other using silicone injections, illegally acquired between 2004 and 2015. For her actions, Deanna Roberts has been charged with transporting, possessing, and using a controlled substance. The woman’s trial was scheduled for May.
A Florida prosecutor found 47-year-old Deanna Roberts guilty of illegally purchasing liquid silicone, a substance strictly monitored by the FDA, and using it to inject various persons. Roberts had also admitted posing as a licensed medical professional in order to conduct clandestine silicone injections.
The Florida authorities also found the woman guilty of killed Lateasha Hall, a transgender entertainer living in the same town, in November 2015. According to Roberts’ court document, Hall, who also known as Lateash Shuntel, was a regular customer, coming in every week for buttocks injections.
After a couple of sessions, the transgender started feeling ill, ultimately losing consciousness. Despite the doctors’ efforts, Hall could not be saved and was declared dead shortly after her last silicone session.
The coroner’s report revealed that the substance had spread throughout Hall’s body, choking her lungs, heart, brain, and other vital organs. In addition, the same report stated that the transgender received at least ten silicone injection in the buttocks during the last session and that Roberts ruptured a major blood vessel in the process.
It also appears that Hall wasn’t Roberts’ only victim. The investigators declared that three more women were admitted to the hospital after experiencing silicone poisoning symptoms. All of them admitted getting their shots at Roberts’ clandestine clinic.
After arresting the woman and dismantling her under-the-counter business, the authorities no less than 178 of liquid silicone. The woman’s interview revealed that she acquired the substance between April 2004 and December 2015. Moreover, when asked about the substance, Deanna Roberts said that she is a licensed medical professional and that she is going to use it in order to lubricate medical equipment.
The woman now has to answer for several felonies which include purchasing, transporting, and using a substance strictly controlled by the FDA, murder, and posing as a licensed medical practitioner in order to obtain money from patients.
According to the authorities, the three woman which Roberts poised during her practice were treated and will soon be able to return to their homes.
