Mother Nature can be very cruel at times when she feels threatened, a fact proved by a recent event which took place in Indonesia, in the little village of Salubiro, located on the eastern shore of the Sulawesi island. According to the people who experienced the event first-hand, a 23-foot-long and very hungry reticulated python devoured a 25-year-old man who was tending to his palm oil tree plantation. His body was retrieved after a few villagers spliced open the snake’s abdominal cavity.
Salubiro’s small community was shaken by a recent event which occurred on one of the palm tree oil plantation that surrounds the villagers. It all started with a man, later identified as Akbar’s uncle, paying a visit to his nephew who worked on the plantation.
The man declared that it’s wasn’t unusual for his nephew to leave his house over the weekend in order to care for the precious palm oil crop. However, come Monday, the man went to Akbar’s home in order to check up on him. To the man’s surprise, his nephew did not return home.
Troubled by the man’s disappearance, Akbar’s uncle asked some of the villagers to help him. The search party headed to the palm oil tree plantation in the hopes that they might learn what happened to Akbar.
According to Akbar’s uncle, it was getting dark, and the search proved fruitless so far. However, after reaching one of the trees, the search party found something that looked like a farming implement and a boot. Furthermore, the ground around the tree seemed to have been disturbed by someone or something.
Upon inspecting the palm tree, Akbar’s uncle and the villagers found a 23-foot-long reticulated python hanging from one of the lower branches. The man declared that pythons are a common occurrence in that part of the Sulawesi Island, but this one seemed suspicious from the beginning.
The reticulated python seemed to have an enlarged abdomen, and it was moving around erratically. After taking a closer look at the python’s bloated abdomen, the villagers realized that whatever the snake ate must have been large.
With dispatch, the villagers slit open the python’s abdominal cavity only to reveal the partially digested body of Akbar, the 25-year-old man who went missing over the weekend. The search party said that the body had a large wound its back, meaning that Akbar must have been taken by surprise by the gigantic reticulated python.
