Vice President of AIG finance company, Omar Meza was found dead in a pond. The San Diego native went missing about one week ago while heading to Palm Desert, California on a business trip. Yesterday, officers with the Palm Desert police department found his body in a pond.
In a statement from the police department, a deceased man was found in water just off Country Club Drive at approximately 2:15 pm. At this time, no information has been released pertaining to the cause of death.
Meza’s family gave a statement to a local television station, saying they immediately went to the area after hearing that a man’s body had been found. Prior to the discovery, family members created a Facebook page in an effort to locate 33-year-old Meza but shortly after his death was confirmed, they posted that he had in fact passed away, followed by thanking everyone involved for their assistance in finding him.
In the police report, Meza was traveling on business and had checked into the Desert Springs JW Marriott Resort on January 8. Witnesses saw Meza that evening while attending a dinner hosted by AIG. However, the following day he failed to show up at a scheduled meeting, which raised alarm bells.
Upon receiving the call of Meza being missing, local authorities began searching the grounds around the hotel, as well as the hotel itself. Meza’s wallet and coat were found on the resort’s golf course and after bloodhounds and drivers were brought in. For several days, several hotel and nearby ponds and lakes were searched.
Without initially finding anything, authorities expanded the search to unincorporated areas of Riverside County and off Interstate 10 in Thousand Palms. Soon after, the discovery in the hotel pond was made.
Although the investigation into Meza’s death is still underway, his wife believes that an Uber driver dropped him off almost two miles from the Marriott Desert Springs Resort on accident. Until the autopsy is finalized, some people refuse to believe that Meza is actually dead, to include his Sven Meza, his own brother.
As imagined, the case has stirred up a lot of speculation but according to Sven, there was no separate life or hidden secrets.
