ISIS claims 26-year-old Kayla Mueller from Arizona was killed in an airstrike in the northern region of Syria. Mueller, taken hostage by the terrorist army, is said to have been the last American in captive following the beheading of the Japanese journalist. Included in the statement was that no ISIS fighters were even injured, which raises suspicions.
Reportedly, Mueller who is from the beautiful mountain town of Prescott, was killed in the airstrike but according to Jordanian government officials, ISIS claims are nothing more than criminal propaganda. The United States also stated that at this time, they have no proof that Mueller was killed.
If the reports from ISIS are true, Mueller would be the fourth person from the United States to die at the hands of Islamic State militants. Her parents released a statement to the US government that they had promised to treat her like a guest and that not only her safety but also well-being would be their full responsibility.
As an aid worker, Mueller had previously worked with various groups in Palestinian territories, as well as India, and Israel. Since her capture in August of 2013 while leaving a hospital, the US government remained silent on her identity out of fear she would be killed.
It has been confirmed that Jordan airstrikes were being carried out. Apparently, it was during Muslim prayers that airstrikes hit the same location for over an hour. Following, photographs of the devastation were made public but no images of Mueller were ever provided. As stated by Mohammed al-Momani, spokesman for the Jordanian government, the incident is under investigation.
As stated by al-Momani, much of ISIS claim is completely illogical. After all, why would a female American hostage be in a weapons warehouse and how was the Islamic State militant group able to identify a Jordanian warplane in the sky. He reminds people that while his country was in talks about freeing the Jordanian pilot who was burned alive, they discover that he had been killed weeks prior.
Officials from the American government are also looking into the claims. Bernadette Meehan, spokeswoman with the National Security Council said that the reports from ISIS are extremely concerning but that this time, no evidence of Mueller’s death has been provided. The only thing of any substance included in the report was phone numbers and other personal information pertaining to Mueller.
Initially, her parents received a ransom demand for millions of euros, saying if the money were not paid their daughter would be killed by the middle part of August. That too is in contradiction since the ransom was made in 2013. In addition to her, it is believed that John Cantlie, a journalist from Britain, as well as others, are still ISIS hostages.
