How often do you hit the gym? Wait, let us rephrase that one – how often do you find yourself thinking about hitting the gym? We all know that the hardest part of staying in shape is to actually build up the courage of going to buy a gym membership card. Well, because we know that going to the gym means a lot of hard work and sweat, we want to tell you the story of a little establishment from Scotland, where the client can go to…take a nap.
Recently, the David Lloyd Clubs, owner of a chain of gyms, has recently announced that it has open a workout place like none other. So, instead of buying tons of fitness equipment which clients might need in order to stay in shape, the establishment’s owner decided to do a little spring cleaning.
This means that the gym was cleared of anything remotely resembling physical training equipment and was instead filled with fluffy pillows, cozy blankets, couches, mattress, and comfy beds. Sounds like a little Shangri-La of sleep, doesn’t it?
Well, according to the gym’s owner, this is exactly what this place is – a dormitory where you buy a membership card to get some quality sleep. Now, you’re probably wondering about what’s the purpose of such a place.
As you probably know by now, the life of a modern adult is not exactly a bed of roses, no pun intended. Several studies have proved that adults are just not getting enough sleep per night, and, of course, the most cited causes are stress and too much screen time. Moreover, parents of small children are getting the least amount of sleep per night, according to this study, managing to get less than five hours of sleep.
So, seeing that sleep deprivation is at the core of so many health issues like diabetes, depression, or obesity, the David Lloyd Clubs decided that a radical approach is required. Their solution, albeit strange, might be the answer to our sleep dilemma.
After buying your gym membership, you are invited to choose a place to sleep. Moreover, you will also be lulled to sleep by soothing ambient music and, according to the gym’s owner, the temperature will be slightly modified, in order to promote healthy weight loss.
Note that the sleep gym is still in the experimental phase, but the owner is seriously thinking about opening more.
