Bib County Sheriff’s deputies aided by FBI agents managed to track down and arrest a 24-year-old Illinois man who adopted an 11-year-old girl and took her in Georgia. The authorities declared that the man made contact with the girl via the online game Minecraft.
Illinois Man Abducts 11-Year-old from the Family’s Orlando House
According to the Orlando Police Department, 11-year-old Alice Johnson disappeared from the family’s home on Sunday morning. Her parents last saw the girl on Saturday night going to her room. However, the very next morning, when he father went to wake for up in order to go to church, he found the bedroom empty and called the authorities.
Acting on several tips and using electronic surveillance methods, the Oregon authorities aided by Bib County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI tracked down the girl and her abductor to a small Holiday Inn hotel just outside Macon.
According to the official police report, the 11-year-old girl was found in the company of 24-year-old John Peter Byrns, a Hoffman Estates resident.
The girl was safely retrieved by the law enforcement officers and the suspect taken into custody without incident. When confronted with his deed, the Illinois man denied harming the girl. Apparently, both of them are avid Minecraft fans, an online game that allows players to build and fight together.
Byrns claimed meeting Johnson while playing Minecraft and declared that he posed as a girl in order to lure Alice. Following the incident, Alice’s father warned all parents regarding the danger of letting their children go without supervision while playing online games.
The man also commended the efforts of all FBI agents and police officers who managed to bring his daughter home safe and sound. As for the Illinois man, he was booked with bail in the Bib County jail.
