Alert: Major spoilers ahead for both “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” and “Game of Thrones: Dragonstone” productions!
“Game of Thrones” managed to break all HBO records thanks to the latest season premiere. The show enjoyed great warm up with lots of speculations, scenarios, and theories keeping fans’ fantasy alive while the crew was working on the production. However, the moment of truth is here. Enthusiasts enjoyed a lot of surprises. The only bad part was the episode lasting for only 55 minutes. However, during this time, Harry Potter fans felt the odd feeling of a déjà vu.
Samwell Remains Loyal to the Mission Jon Snow Gave Him
In the season premiere, the universes of Game of Thrones and Harry Potter collided. The result is a famous scene in J.K. Rowling’s books that was cunningly recreated in the world of the Seven Kingdoms. It all started with Samwell Tartly infiltrating the Citadel with a precise mission. He had to learn from the old books the method through which to vanquish White Walkers for good.
However, it is not as easy a task as fighting on the battlefield. Samwell’s fate throws him at the bottom of the erudite hierarchy which has everything to do with human feces and serving food that looks like bowel excrements. This is the ugliness in the magic with which George R. R. Martin constructs his scenes and characters.
However, as a novel apprentice, Samwell has no access to the object of his mission, the restricted area of the library. This is where the Easter egg kicks in. Samwell encounters the archmaester Ebrose at the mortuary where the two of them are carrying an autopsy. Besides the open body and organs that need to be weighed, the two of them share a similar conversation like the one between professor Horace Slughorn and young Voldemort. In this case, Sam begs Ebrose to give him access to the restricted source of knowledge.
Jim Broadbent’s Character Sent a Déjà Vu Shiver to Harry Potter Fans
The main hint was the same actor who played both archmaester and potions master, namely Jim Broadbent. In both universes, he is the keeper of the key or secrets of the restricted area in the library. The scene where professor Slughorn divulges secrets of dark magic to the evil Tom Marvolo Riddle is the quintessence of Dumbledore and Potter’s plan to annihilate Voldemort.
While Broadbent’s character in Game of Thrones hasn’t made Sam’s mission any easier, there is still time. Like Voldemort, Jon Snow’s friend might find himself in need of some guidance regarding some dark secrets about White Walkers in the following episodes.
No matter the importance of such a fleeting scene, some Harry Potter fans felt the shivers of a déjà vu. Therefore, they hurried online to elucidate such a massive Easter Egg to other enthusiasts as well.
