The Google developer event, I/O, released its first details about the 2017 edition through a puzzle that hinted at and confirmed its date and location.
Google I/O or simply I/O is an annual conference. The Google developer event is held in California. But its exact location was seen to change throughout the years.
The first I/O edition was held back in 2008. Since then, it has been organized by the company’s executive team. Its name stands for input/output. It is also a reference to one of the company slogans. More exactly, to “Innovation in the Open”.
The Google develop event showcases diverse technical in-depth sessions. These target various areas. Mobile, enterprise, and web application building processes are discussed. They are linked to Google and open sources OS. APIs, Chrome and Chrome OS, the Google Web Toolkit are such sources.
Google usually announced the date of the I/O sometime during this period. And it did not fail to do the same this year. The date announcement came yesterday. And it was released in the form of the puzzle.
This somewhat unusual method was used to present this year’s Google developer event date. And the Internet giant also confirmed the 2017 location.
I/O will be held at the Shoreline Amphitheatre. This is situated in Mountain View, California. It is the same location used for last year’s event.
Google went to confirm or in some cases, reveal, the solution to the puzzle. In doing so, it marked May 17 to 19 as the official conference date.
The Google developer event also received a new website. This was released online on January 24. However, for the moment at least, it is quite empty.
Currently, the 11th I/O edition website does not offer any information. It just hosts an I/O icon. The web page also displays a message. It asks the interested users to “Check back soon for more details.”
For most of its run, the Google developer event took place at the Moscone Events Center. Situated in San Francisco, the event quite outgrew its usual venue. I/O’s popularity has led to an increase in the visitor numbers.
And most are quite excited for the potential reveals. During past editions, Google released new software. Or at least offered specifications about upcoming company products.
For example, the Android Nougat was announced during the 2016 I/O conference. And it is just one of the new Android version reveals. The 2017 edition could offer a glimpse at Android O. The Android 8.O OS might be shown for the first time during the event.
Daydream, Google’s VR platform, could also be seeing some improvements. Its functionality may be improved. Back in 2016, the company announced its own Daydream View VR headset. For the moment, this is only compatible with Pixel devices.
Google is expected to widen the headset’s compatibility area. Daydream could be coming to new Android devices. And it could potentially do so thanks to Android O. More VR-focused applications are also on the waiting list.
Other Google apps could also be seeing new updates and improvements. The Google developer event date puzzle was not the only thing released on Tuesday. Google also updated the Voice functionality.
Google Voice will come with some new features. Group messaging has been added. And the app will also have some new icons.
The Google developer event registration process should also be revealed quite soon. I/O conference topics will probably also be announced over the following period.
