Facebook is one of the most popular social media platforms. As such, the company is always vigilant and trying to give users as much comfort as possible. One of its extensions, namely Facebook Messenger, has recently been upgraded, by adding a video feature.
While the online social media gives increasing importance to videos, Facebook couldn’t stay behind. After the recent launching of Lifestage app for youngsters, the company allows access to a video feature to all of its users.
The new video feature is called “Instant Video” and you can use it in your Facebook Messenger conversations. What it does it to allow you to film yourself and actually have a video conversation, very similar to video calls. Nevertheless, it is different from video calls because your record ends when you send it to a friend, and you can receive new ones from friends in return.
The update was made on Thursday, September 1. The new feature is displayed now through an icon on Facebook Messenger. By clicking it, you start your record, which turns into a message to a friend.
The application works only when two people are engaged in a Facebook Messenger conversation. There are also other features that you can choose from, like managing the sound, for instance. You can also see your friends’ reaction when receiving the video message.
You can use the application whenever you need to send messages quickly and you feel like images and videos will work better than words. This way, you can share with friends important moments they might miss, or perhaps make them jealous because you’re attending a memorable event, like a sports competition or a natural phenomenon.
Apart from Instant Video, Facebook Messenger, has a different feature for proper video calls.
Facebook introduced the new application through a blog post. Here is the developers’ view on the video feature:
“Instant Video is a reflection of the ubiquity of video — we simply expect to have that ability in real-time, all the time. With Instant Video, you can bring your conversations to life in the most authentic way — seamlessly and instantly.”
The new Facebook Messenger application is similar to the way Snapchat works. Through the new update, Facebook wants to keep as many users as possible interested in the platform, and not choosing other means of online communication. Lifestage was created with the same purpose so that especially teenagers should be attracted by the social platform’s possibilities of communication.
