David Brevik, the mastermind behind the Diablo series, has just announced a new 2D RPG platformer called It Lurks Below. According to Brevik, the game will feature elements from the Diablo series and randomly generated levels.
Diablo Creator Seems to Have a Thriving Solo Career
After settling his score with Blizzard, Brevik has decided to take the matter into his own hands and try out a solo game development career. His company called Graybeard Games is about to hit steam with a witty and dungeon-style game that borrows some of the features used to put together one of the most popular RPG series.
According to Brevik, It Lurk Below is a 2D sandbox RPG featuring a brave dungeon crawler whose sole purpose is to delve even deeper and to eliminate what lurks within. With randomly generated dungeons, fully upgradable weapons, and spells, it would appear that Brevik’s latest creation might end being one of the most compelling platformers of 2018.
Of course, no RPG bearing Brevik’s moniker could not be complete without a skill tree, and some shiny loot is just waiting to be plucked. Brevik also mentioned that the upcoming title would feature three modes: a normal mode, a sandbox mode, and a permadeath mode for hardcore gamers.
Another great thing about It Lurks Below is that apart from the melee arsenal, players will also be able to take up firearms, lasers, and plasma-based weapons. Timeline-wise, if everything goes according to plan, the game should pop out on steam in the following months.
Meanwhile, if you’re interested in talking to the man or seeing the game, you can always participate in the closed beta held this weekend. But do keep in mind that there are 200 spots, so you’d better hurry up.
