Law enforcement authorities from Lynn, Arkansas have reported that an 8-years old boy died after a badly damaged tombstone fell on him. The authorities said that the boy and his parents were attending a birthday party hosted at the town’s church.
A birthday party held at the town’s local church ended in tragedy after a badly damaged tombstone fell on an eight years old boy.
As the authorities discovered, the body, whose identity was not revealed was invited by a close friend to attend his birthday party which was to be held at Lynn’s church. Sometimes during the party, the 8-years old child wandered away from the group and went to the church’s cemetery in order to play.
During his exploration of the parish’s cemetery, the boy spotted an old and decrepit tombstone and went there to take a look. The investigators believe that the boy might have tried to climb or pushed the moment before it collapsed.
A couple of minutes later, the badly damaged tombstone fell on the infant, killing him on the spot. The sound of the tombstone crumbling was head from afar by the group attending the party.
The group immediately alerted the local authorities who arrived on the scene minutes later. A team of paramedics was dispatched to pick up the critically wounded boy. Upon arriving at the hospital, the doctors tried to resuscitate the young child, but his injuries were too severe. Several minutes later, the eight-years-old child was pronounced dead.
Jeff Neely, the community’s pastor, was very moved by the family’s tragedy. The pastor declared that the boy was full of life and curious as any young man would be. The community’s church will pray for the family of the deceased boy and will offer them financial support.
Meanwhile, the family of the 8-years old boy who was killed by the damaged tombstone accuses Lynn’s Cemetery Associated of letting the tombstones degrade to such an extent that they become hazardous.
Two years ago, a 4-years old boy from Albany, New York lost his life in a similar incident. In addition, in 2012, a young girl from Northern Carolina was crushed by a tombstone in the church’s cemetery, and, in early 2013, a cemetery worker from Texas lost his life after being crushed by badly damaged tombstone which weighed almost a ton.
