A Connecticut man might be sentenced to death or life in prison for the slaying of his wife and unborn child. According to the man’s arrest warrant, 41-year-old Patrick Antoine of New London, Connecticut, stabbed his pregnant wife several times in the abdomen because he thought she was a voodoo priestess.
Connecticut Man Strongly Believed He Was Cursed
During his police interview, Patrick Antoine, a New London resident, but originally from Haiti, declared that he lived with the belief that dark magic was at work, suspecting 37-year-old Margarette Mady, his wife.
According to the Connecticut man, just before committing the atrocious murder, he distinctly heard his wife saying that she cast dark spells on him and that Antoine will need to be sacrificed in anticipation of the child’s birth. Mady was eight months pregnant when she was assaulted by her husband.
Fearing for his life, in June 2016, the man retrieved a knife from his kitchen, went to his wife, and stabbed her several times in the abdomen. Later that day, the Connecticut man dialed 911 and told the emergency dispatcher that he stabbed his wife.
When the emergency responders arrived, they’ve declared the woman dead on the scene, but rushed her to the hospital in a desperate attempt to save the child. Unfortunately, the unborn child also passed away as a result of the injuries he received during Antoine’s frenzied attack.
During his court appearance, the Connecticut man told the judge and jury that the child wasn’t his and that his wife was sure to sacrifice him, had he not intervened. As part of his plea deal, Antoine could be sentenced to 85 years in prison for murder and 25 more years for assault leading to the termination of pregnancy.
The man might also face charges of arson, as he admitted to setting the house on fire to cover his tracks.
