The infestations with bed bugs are increasing in the United States.
According to the pest control company named Orkin, Chicago is the city with the most bed bugs for the fourth year in a row. The company released a report that included the top 50 cities that dealt most with bed bugs in the year 2015. This list was made after bed bug treatments done from January until December were analyzed.
The top four cities infected in 2015 with bed bugs were Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and New York City. And the four least infected with bed bugs last year were Colorado Springs, Albany, Honolulu and Myrtle Beach.
According to experts, when people travel more, the risk of getting infected with bed bugs is more increased. Bed bugs can be taken from hotel rooms and can later infect your home. Even though they are not that threatening to the health, people’s sanity is usually more threatened, as the idea of having bed bugs can terrorize most people.
Experts say that when you travel, you should always check your bed. All you have to do to make sure you don’t have bed bugs is pull the sheets from the bed a little and use the flashlight from your phone to look for black or brown dots. You should look more carefully especially around the headboard area. Keeping your suitcase locked at night and all of your clothes in it is another preventative method you should use. If you wake up with red dots on your body, take off your clothes, put them in a bag and then in the clothes dryer. Also, when you move into a new home, you should check if the place ever dealt with bed bugs on www.bedbugsregistry.com.
If you discover that you do have bed bugs, you should call a specialist but if you want to do something until he gets there, you can use your vacuum and throw the bag immediately after. What is most important according to specialists is not to panic, since bed bugs are not harmful. They say that mosquitoes are much more dangerous, but the difference is that we have grown used to having them around.
There were some cities that registered increased bed bugs issues and these include Omaha, Louisville, Charleston, Sacramento, Grand Rapids and Buffalo. Some cities reported the opposite, with New York, Miami, Syracuse, Greenville and Atlanta having decreased cases of bed bugs. The cities that made the list for the first time were St. Louis, Ky., Bowling Green, S.C, Ft. Wayne and Myrtle Beach.
Chicago is the city with the most bed bugs for the fourth year in a row and according to Orkin, the bed bugs situation is growing constantly in the United States. In 2004 the Americans spent $70 million for bed bugs treatments and in 2013, that number grew to $446 million.
