The Oregon authorities recently arrested a 71-year-old man after he allegedly tried to murder his roommate. According to the police, the septuagenarian took refuge in murder following a household spat about sharing the electrical beer. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Oregon Man Used Cellophane Wrap to Smother His Victim
On Friday, 74-year-old Leo Miller was taken into police custody and charged with first-degree attempted murder following an incident which allegedly took place on the 4th of February in the victim’s house.
According to the police records, some time ago, Miller’s victim, 84-year-old Charlotte Simmons, placed an ad on Craigslist in which she expressed her will to share her home with someone. Apparently, Leo Miller was the one who answered to the woman’s ad, and, very soon, the man moved in.
The authorities discovered that during his stay at Simmons’ house, the man kept to himself, and didn’t argue with his victim.
Unfortunately, their rapport took a turn for the worse when the woman asked Miller about how they are going to split the electricity bill. During his police interview, the Oregon septuagenarian confessed that he was disgruntled by the way his roommate decided on the electricity bill sharing and decided to confront her.
However, instead of voicing his discontent, the man waited for his victim to fall asleep in her recliner, took a cellophane wrap from the kitchen and smothered her as hard as he could.
After being attacked by Miller, Simmons pretended to be dead, not before activating the LifeAlert necklace she was wearing. Within minutes, the authorities arrived at Simmons’ house and arrested the assailant.
The authorities said that when the first responders arrived, Miller was yelling at his victim, still pinned to the recliner. Simmons was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The septuagenarian was arrested and charged with first-degree attempted murder, being held in county jail in lieu of $25,000.
