A new study made by the USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll reveals that most of the California voters want marijuana to be legalized. Proposition 64, the law who would legalize person use is supported by 58 percent of the people who vote in California. This means that people, no matter their age or income, want the authorities to legalize pot.
Proposition 64 is not allowing people to use as much pot as they want. According to the law, those over 21 years old will be able to have up to 8 grams of marijuana and six plants. Those who want to smoke pot could do it only in their homes and shops where the drug is sold. California voters seem to enjoy the idea. It would be the fifth state that allows people to use marijuana not only for medical purposes.
The authorities took into consideration the idea of legalizing marijuana. It would be easier for them to have power over marijuana business. There are a lot of people who grow pot, even if it is illegal. This causes a lot of problems for the authorities. Moreover, they could make some money from this business. California wants to put a marijuana tax to those who cultivate and sell the plant. People who want to sell it will have to give 9.25 dollars per ounce for dry flowers and 2.75 dollars for leaves. Think of how much money could the authorities make from this taxes.
However, the officials should be aware that after the Preposition will pass, things could be out of control if they are not prepared. Many California voters want marijuana to be legalized, which means that many of them will want to smoke it as soon as they can. Marijuana supporters want to have some meeting with people to talk about the benefits and disadvantages of this substance.
What is really surprising is that there were other propositions in the past regarding this matter, but the voters did not agree. It seems that younger people are more supportive. Moreover, some California voters think that marijuana is good for their health and want to use it without being worried about breaking the law.
We will see what happens with Proposition 64, but there a lot of chances for it to be approved. In the future, we could see more states who will legalize marijuana.
