An 8-year old boy suffering from vitiligo was given the opportunity to meet a dog with the same condition thanks to a GoFundMe campaign. The two hit it off immediately, and the ensuing photo shoot shows just how beautiful an instant friendship can be.

Rowdy Taught Carter to Embrace His Skin Condition
Up until now, Rowdy – a 14-year-old black Labrador with vitiligo – and Carter – an 8-year-old boy from Arkansas only communicated through social media. Despite the distance separating them, Rowdy taught Carter that vitiligo is nothing to be ashamed of, the little boy learning to embrace the skin disorder that made him different from the other children at school.
After a year-long friendship with Rowdy, Carter gained plenty of confidence, doing flips, smiling, and embracing all kinds of activities that he wasn’t interested in before. Carter is a changed boy thanks to the positive influence of a perky black Labrador who isn’t ashamed to rock his vitiligo spots.
The moment when the two met was very emotional. Stephanie Blanchard, Carter’s mother, was not sure if the reunion would ever take place, but thanks to the generosity of strangers who donated $5,000 to their GoFundMe campaign, the 8-year-old boy managed to meet his friend and mentor.
Niki Umbenhower, Rowdy’s owner, declared that Carter wasn’t the only one eagerly awaiting the meet-up. The woman confessed to getting goosebumps as she walked through the door and saw the little boy’s face light up with joy and excitement.
The meeting ended with an impromptu photo session that proves happiness is the best makeup. Both Carter and Rowdy were perfect, the two proudly showing off their spots.
UPDATE ON ROWDY . Rowdy saw a neurologist in the ER today. They are not sure if it was a seizure or a stroke or something else. They did a lot of tests and without a “much needed” (expensive) MRI and CT Scan, we may never know. He could have a tumor or a mass causing a lot of his issues. . We left with them prescribing a new medication for seizures as well as some codeine for his pain. This could be age related, an isolated event, or he may have more episodes like today. . I want to thank EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU for the prayers, well wishes, and support! It is truly overwhelming to see the kindness and love this pup has from around the world! We love you all! Please continue to follow along the amazing adventure we are having with Carter and his mom from Arkansas! While Rowdy started his day with a scare and a trip to the ER, he was able to end it meeting up with Carter, another beautiful little girl Emma from Eugene, and some dear family friends for a play date and then squeezed in a photo shoot to boot. . This dog never ceases to amaze me with his resilience!!

Rowdy Is Now in Need of Help
After meeting hundreds of children and inspiring thousands more through his social media account, Rowdy is now the one in need of aid. The black Labrador suffered a seizure on Sunday, doctors from the emergency veterinarian hospital not being able to give a diagnosis without a CT or an MRI. The tests are very expensive, so Umbenhower has set up a GoFundMe page.
In the absence of the scans, doctors could only speculate on the nature of Rowdy’s seizures. The most likely theory is that the incident was caused by the lab’s old age, but a neurological disease cannot be excluded completely.
