A bone-chilling murder case that took place in Ames, Iowa proves that the Sandman isn’t the only one that comes to watch you sleep. According to the Ames authorities, a 35-year-old woman was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, after she admitted shooting her husband in the head while the man was fast asleep. The woman’s case file reveals that the murderer stared at her husband for about 10 minutes before pulling the trigger.
Ames Woman Executes Her Husband While He’s Sleeping
Candace Cummings of Ames, Iowa, was recently arrested after she admitted killing her husband. According to the investigators, the Ames woman, as well as several other people who were inside the house when the alleged accident happen, declared that the gun went off by accident.
The authorities were called by a neighbor who heard the gunshot from Cummings’ house. Unfortunately, despite the paramedics’ efforts to resuscitate Harland Cummings, Candace’s husband, he could not be saved and was declared dead at the scene.
As for the woman, she was brought to the local police station for her interview. Although the Ames woman seemed pretty calm during her first encounter with the authorities, according to an Ames Police Department spokesperson, Candace told the investigator during her interview that her husband’s death was no accident, and that she actually killed him.
Candace Cummings Said She Lived in an Unhappy Marriage
Based on Candace’s statements, the police officers were able to piece together the murder’s timeline. On the 21st of October, 2016 at approximately 6:03 am, Candace went to the lockbox and retrieved her husband’s gun.
It would appear that before committing the gruesome deed, Candace got on the bed, and stared at her sleeping husband for at least 10 minutes. After that, she got up, placed the pistol upon her husband’s head and pulled the trigger. Given the extent of the wound, the coroner suggests that death occurred instantaneously.
When asked by the authorities why she deemed it necessary to end her husband’s life in such a gruesome manner, the Ames woman replied that her marriage was going downriver and that the only way she could be happy was if her husband was dead.
Currently, Candace Cummings of Ames, Iowa is being detained at the Story County Jail, pending her trial. She was charged by the authorities with first-degree murder. If she’s found guilty, the Ames woman might spend the rest of her days in prison.
