Probably the most controversial access pipeline of all times, Dakota system started delivering oil on Thursday. This project had to go through months of lawsuits and protests. Nonetheless, it received Trump’s approval and managed to record a successful launching day.
A Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Was the Main Protesting Party Against Dakota Access Pipeline
A spokeswoman for Energy Transfer Partners, Vicki Granado, stated that the Dakota Access Pipeline is working at full capacity. The 1,172-mile pipeline crosses a total of four states and required an amount of $3.7 billion for production. On the other hand, the opposition was fierce.
A Standing Rock Sioux tribe in North Dakota was the main anti-project player. Their argumentations regard the danger for their own sacred artifacts and holy territories to be bedraggled. At the same time, their only source of water might get spoiled by oil which would render it unsafe for drinking. There were tens of thousands of other environmentalists and concerned citizens who joined protests.
Donald Trump Devulged His Support for This Project by Signing an Executive Action
The pipeline starts from North Dakota, crosses South Dakota and Iowa, only to reach Illinois. Authorities expect this network to deliver 470,000 barrels of crude oil daily. Amid ardent clashes and protests, the project received new hope in January. This was when the President Donald Trump signed an executive action. This document annulled former President Barack Obama’s efforts to hinder construction of such a project.
This was an important milestone for Dakota access pipeline. Since Donald Trump’s clear approval of this project, the work gained momentum and managed to reach its finality. Nonetheless, protesters aren’t going to leave their convictions aside now that the pipeline has become operational. On the contrary, they expect a court to shut down the activity. This legal decision is going to be followed by a comprehensive environmental investigation. This way, protesters can find out if this crude oil network is going to pose a health threat to American citizens or not.
