A 10 year study conducted in the United States revealed that people who drink coffee on a daily basis are less likely to suffer from a number of diseases like diabetes or heart diseases, than those who don’t drink coffee. The study proved that 5 cups of coffee a day can keep the doctor away.
It appears that the risks of getting these diseases were lowering as the participants drank more coffee. This applied to the people who drank decaf coffee as well.
Coffee is known to contain a lot of essential nutrients like potassium, magnesium, riboflavin (vitamin B2) and pantothenic acid also known as vitamin B5. Researchers used information from a study done prior to this one, from 1998 to 2009 which proved that coffee drinkers were less likely to die.
The study used 90,317 healthy adults and checked them periodically taking into account factors like smoking. The participants had no history of cardiovascular disease or cancer. 8,700 participants died by 2009, concluding that the coffee drinkers were less likely to die prematurely.
It is important to note that people who drank five cups of coffee a day had the lowest death risk. The diseases coffee prevented included suicide, influenza, diabetes, pneumonia and respiratory diseases. Unfortunately, drinking coffee can only reduce the apparition of some forms cancer like liver cancer.
People who drank three cups of coffee a day lowered their death risk with 18% in comparison to the people who didn’t drink coffee at all. On a normal basis you can drink up to 400 milligrams of caffeine a day. While pregnant, women can drink up to 200 milligrams of caffeine every day.
Apparently people who drink coffee are also people who exercise and have a healthy diet. Even though Dr. Gunter, one of the lead researchers says that a healthy lifestyle includes daily coffee drinks, doctors do not recommend to nondrinkers to start drinking it for health reasons.
Other benefits of drinking coffee include increased energy levels, improved physical performance and fat burn. If you didn’t know, caffeine is one of the few natural substances that is proven to help the process of fat burning. Studies show that caffeine can boost the metabolic rate up to 11%.
Researchers want us to pay attention to the fact that while 5 cups of coffee a day can keep the doctor away, coffee does not extend the duration of our lives.
